• Telephone calls, messages
• Letters / faxes / e-mails - formal and informal
• Social meetings - formal and informal register
• Meeting clients / customers
• Making travel arrangements
• Simple negotiations
• Giving / receiving instructions
• General "get by" in French - hotels, bars, restaurants, public transport, car hire
• General grammar focus

Get By General French (typical syllabus)

• Presenting Oneself - talking about who we are, our families, where we come from, what we do for a living, what we like to do in our spare time, addressing people
• Time - telling the time, numbers, days, months of the year
• Money - how we spend it, how to deal with it on holiday (credit cards, cash machines, I.D etc.), useful colloquial expressions.
• Food - shopping for food , eating out, French dishes and wines.
• Getting about - Driving, asking for directions, roadsigns, different forms of transport.

The minimum length of a course is 20 hours with classes lasting either 1½ or 2 hours

• Property and accomodation - describing one's house; its interior, its location and surroundings, renting holiday accomodation; reservations, buying property in France, dealing with soliciters and builders

• The evolution of the French language ; slang, influence of the English language, colloquial expressions
• Regional languages and dialects

• Culture ; music, film, comedy, wining and dining
• Leisure - talking about how we spend our free time, what the French do with theirs.
• The French Media - the different TV channels, famous presenters, well known TV shows and their British counterparts
